Wednesday i went to Banner Marsh and was photographing pelicans. This bird flew by. I have never seen one before. Turns out it is an American Bittern and is on the endangered species list. White Pelicans

Wednesday afternoon I went back to Banner Marsh in search of White Pelicans. This time, I wasn't disappointed! There were hundreds of them. Most were flying in from the west and landing in an area that was not accessible without a boat. But I did manage to find a group of them hanging out on a log. Click here for more pelican photos!

I went to Banner Marsh today with my buddy Mike. I was hoping to find some White Pelicans, but didn't see any. I found one location at the Bell's Landing area that had hundreds of Red Winged Blackbirds. We walked out into the Marsh on a very narrow stretch of rocks and dirt and stood among the tall grasses. Last week, Diane, Bret, Brandon, and I went to Wildlife Prairie State Park near Hanna City, IL for a few hours. It was a great day. While the kids were playing on the playground, I was watching the sparrows near a pavilion.
